My teacher had a beautiful saying: Everybody wants to be special and some people are but never in the way they think they are. The implication being that we cannot even see ourselves let alone evaluate ourselves. And this is why we need the Other. They do see us, warts and all, and they must be trusted – believed. Partner work is crucial because only through the Other can I possibly get it right.
