Lacy, who died 5 years ago at the age of 69, was a pioneer of the difficult soprano saxophone. A horn impossible to play in tune, Lacy, who had perfect pitch, came the closest to really mastering. Also a beautiful person – as sweet as the sound he produced – whom I had the immense pleasure to play with once, albeit in workshop.
